The concept of Monday Blues is well known around the world. With Guinness World Records officially declaring Monday as the worst day of the week, getting back into work mode can be difficult for many.
It is not without reason that Monday is universally considered the most hated day. For most of us, a heightened sense of anticipatory work-related anxiety is real on the first day of the week. After a weekend of Saturday and Sunday, the arrival of Monday is depressing and sometimes no amount of motivation is enough to ease it.
Mondays are particularly boring for several reasons. A fun weekend and a time of rest, there is a different excitement about Monday. Deadlines, pending tasks, and weekend tasks can take their toll. Besides, not everyone likes their job and Mondays can be extremely stressful. Also, people prone to anxiety, depression and other such problems may not like to meet too many people and the pressure of starting the week after a two-day break may be uncomfortable for them.
However, Monday can be used to get the week off to get off to a good start. Days can be made more enjoyable by planning ahead – on Friday itself – to make them most memorable and rewarding.
In this post, we give you 5 ways to give your Monday a bright start.
Effective ways to love our Mondays
1. Rethink breakfast on Monday
Shake off your Monday morning, or any other workday blues, by adopting a healthy morning routine complete with a balanced breakfast. Various studies have shown that choosing healthy breakfast options like oatmeal, bananas, avocados, nuts, eggs and green tea will leave you feeling fresher and more energized to set yourself up for a successful Monday.
2. On Friday evening, set the Monday morning routine
If you’re feeling the Monday blues, try creating a fun habit on Friday that makes you look forward to Monday. It can be as simple as cleaning your office so that it is clean and ready for the week ahead.
3. Dress up a little more
Use clothing to improve negative emotions associated with Monday mornings. Wearing a feel-good outfit on Monday can help you have some days in store for you. Doing something you don’t do every day, but that always makes you feel your best, most confident. To lift your mood, choose bright colors, your favorite fabric or print, or a brand that feels great on you.
4. Get a dose of natural light.
An easy way to turn Monday around is to find a dose of natural light. Open the blinds, eat breakfast outside, water your vegetable garden or go for a walk. Light is like a cup of coffee. It has a strong warning effect. In addition, even five minutes spent in nature can provide a happy high. Try going for a run or brisk walk. Park your car a little away from the office and walk to work as it will make you feel good and release endorphins.
5. Perform a random act of kindness
Start the week off with kindness, whether it’s to a co-worker, your neighbor, or a stranger. With some charity built into your Monday morning routine, you’ll likely feel more positive and position yourself for a productive week ahead.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to killing those Monday morning blues. Even small things like creating good vibes with music, smiling at co-workers, or eating a piece of chocolate can make a huge difference to your mental well-being. The most important thing to remember after returning from a relaxing weekend is that if you feel anxious and overwhelmed – it’s okay to not be okay.
