In this report, co-produced by PBS NewsHour, KHN senior correspondent Sarah Verney traveled from the Missouri border in Illinois to the Wisconsin border to talk to abortion care physicians. Dr. Erin King is the executive director of the Hope Clinic for Women in Granite City, Illinois, across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.
King said he has already seen more patients from outside Illinois who have traveled long distances for care. “Distance has increased and human resources have decreased,” King said, adding that some patients feel the procedure is illegal everywhere.
